Inviting New Eucharistic Ministers to assist at Sunday Mass with the distribution of Holy Communion or to bring Communion to the housebound. Perhaps some of our existing Ministers may consider bringing Communion to the housebound. Ministers, when trained, are placed on a rota and usually serve every three weeks. We have a particular need for new ministers to serve in the Church of the Irish Martyrs, Ballycane. Training for this important ministry will be offered in early autumn. Parishioners who are already participating derive great personal satisfaction from their ministry. If you would be willing to consider this invitation please leave your name into the Parish Office or either Sacristy over the coming weeks. Please think about it, we would love to have you involved, thank you!
Almost three years ago Fr. P.J. Madden, from East Galway, came to join us in these Parishes. His engaging way soon brought him in contact with many among us. If you didn’t meet him personally chances are you knew he was around. His outlook is full of hope, his ministry compassionate and his energy seems boundless. He gave very generously of his time. P.J. brings a wealth of experience from his earlier life that enhances and enriches his ministry. A little shooting from the hip, a bit of preaching, a sense of humour, a reluctance to say in one word what can be said in four, delivered in a good old brogue from this well grounded Ballinasloe man, will open in welcome the arms of the folk on the edge of New Orleans with whom he will serve as their pastor. We are grateful that Fr. P.J. has lived and served among us and wish him continued fulfilment in his ministry agus guimís rath Dé air féin agus coimirce Muire leat de shíor. Our first pilgrimage to New Orleans will be……..? Watch this space !!
Work has started in the area of the Church Spire. Judge Construction are on site and the project will run for about six weeks. It will be business as usual both at the church and houses during this time.

On Thursday June 18th Pope Francis published a major encyclical (a letter from the Pope to clarify Church teaching and ask that it be taught and practiced locally and universally). Entitled “Laudato Si” it opens with the prayer of St Francis of Assissi which many of us know as Brother Sun and Sister Moon!
In a detailed account of how we are endangering our planet, through over consumption and abuse of natural resources like forests and wetlands, Pope Francis calls on the church to enter the debate about climate change and related issues to give a moral dimension to the scientific, economic and social elements already ….
Planning for our Mission Week in October is well under way! We thank everyone who‘s come along to one of our planning meetings and helped us through the formation stage of our preparations. The Mission is both an invitation and a challenge. It will be an activity-packed week offering something for everyone to be a part of. We hope the Mission will bring new life to our parishes and be remembered as a time of great grace. The themes chosen by our own parish members are contemporary, relevant and challenging.
Statement of Interest Form is shown below. If you wish, you may print it off, fill it in and drop it back to the Parish Office at your convenience.
