Saturday 11th of February is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. During the 11a.m. Mass in Ballycane, we will have our annual Mass with the Anointing of the Sick . This sacrament is offered to all those who are in need of the Lord’s healing in their lives as a result of illness, an operation, medical treatment, the burden of years or some emotional angst. Perhaps a neighbour, friend or family member would be delighted to attend if they had a lift and someone to care for them while at the mass?  The church is wheelchair friendly and has suitable toilet facilities. 

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on the first Friday of the month in the Church of Our Lady and St. David, Sallins Road, after 10.00am Mass until 6pm.

Friday 9.30am—10am and after 10am Mass.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction takes place in Sallins Church every Friday at 7.30pm. You are welcome to join us for the hour or even only for a few minutes.

Last week people may have noticed some changes in the text of the Mass, this was due to the introduction of the Revised Edition of the Roman Missal. When the Mass was translated from Latin to English about forty years ago, following Vatican II, the translation captured the general sense of the prayers rather than the literal translation from Latin to English. In more recent years the Vatican has looked at this and decided that the translation should be a literal translation from the Latin to English, thus resulting in the publication of the Revised Version we are now using.

During the past number of weeks we have all been getting used to changes in the responses at Mass. Hopefully we will be able to make the new language part of our celebration of Mass over the coming years. On 27th November, the 1st Sunday of Advent, the full revised Mass texts will be used. The Scripture Readings will remain the same as those currently in use. Many people like to have their own Missal or Mass Book which they can use to follow Mass.

As part of the confirmation programme the group of young people who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next year will gather at 12.00 Mass on Sunday 27th November for this enrolment. The renovation and up-grading of the Church of Our Lady and St. David, Naas has been discussed and planned for many years. In 2009 a decision was made to go ahead with the work and a pre-planning meeting was held with the local authority. Would you like to spend an hour each week in silent prayer?  “The Master is here; He is calling you”.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place at The Church of the Irish Martyrs, Ballycane at the following times:
Monday and Tuesday: 10.00am – 9.00pm
Wednesday: 10.00am – 9.30pm
Thursday: 8.00pm – 9.00pm

On Friday evenings, following the 7.30p.m. Mass in the Church of the Irish Martyrs Ballycane, there will be a half hour of guided prayer. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the main church and we will have some time together in prayer. All are welcome to come along.

The Ard Fheis of Connradh na Gaeilge takes place in Naas next week. On Sunday 3rd there will be 11am Mass, as Gaeilge, celebrated in the Church of Our Lady and St David, Sallins Road.

Tenders will shortly be invited for proposed Conservation Works at the Church of Our Lady and St. David, Sallins Road, Naas. The works will include roofing repairs and the re-pointing and re-rendering of external walls, the conservation and repair or reconstruction of leaded and Stained Glass windows, internal re-ordering works, the upgrading of building services and redecoration.

Suitably qualified Building Contractors, Mechanical Services Contractors, Electrical Services Contractors, Stained Glass specialists and Painting Contractors wishing to be considered for inclusion in a prequalification process for the above named works should submit their request in writing, including their company profile and a schedule of references for similar works completed in the recent past to: …

On Friday evenings during Lent, following the 7pm Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and the rosary will be recited. All are welcome to come along. Perhaps it could be part of your Lenten prayer?

February Collection for the Priests of the Parish takes place at all Masses on the 4th/5th February.
