Vocations Sunday

On this Vocations Sunday, we heartily welcome the Poor Clare Sisters from Graiguecullen in Carlow. We are delighted that they come to Naas armed with their message of joy and gladness. We assure them of our prayers asking the Lord to bless their work and increase their numbers. We also pray to the Lord to increase the numbers of those contemplating and presenting for Priesthood and Diaconate in our Church. Like never before, She is in need of new dedicated women and men who will continue to devote their lives to working in the vineyard of the Lord. It is imperative that we understand that each and every member of the faithful have a role to play in creating a culture of Vocation whether it be at home, at work, or in the public sphere. What follows is a list of five ways we can all employ in order to promote Vocations: (Source USCCB)

1. Pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life.

2. Teach young people how to pray.

3. Invite active young adults and teens to consider a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life. A simple, sincere comment should not be underestimated.

4. Make it attractive. The challenge for priests, deacons and religious brothers and sisters is to be joyful models of their vocations.

5. Preach it! Vocations must be talked about regularly if a “vocation culture” is to take root in parishes and homes.
