Minor Works and Some Improvements!

Published on September 8, 2017

Recently we resurfaced the side of Our Lady and St David’s with Macadam. This has improved greatly the overall look of the Church grounds, added to this the creation of a ramp at the main entrance to the Church, this will allow for easier access for parishioners with mobility issues but is especially welcomed by the local Funeral Directors.

New Pedestrian Entrance for pupils attending the local Convent of Mercy Primary School. We were obliged to carry out these changes after concerns were raised by members of An Garda Siochana, the School and from some Parents. It does unfortunately reduce car parking by two spaces and that’s a lot, given the well known limitations of space around the church. Safety of children is always paramount and “thanks” for your understanding. The current railings that form part of the new ‘walk way’ are functional and will be replaced by a structure and finish more pleasing to the eye, once the build for the new school is completed.

The Parish Webcam, which has been part of OLSD for some years, has been upgraded, with improved sound and picture quality. It is a wonderful facility that allows parishioners to follow religious ceremonies and is much appreciated by family who live abroad, especially in times of bereavement. Many a grandchild or other family member have drawn solace from being able to listen and watch the funeral of a loved one. To have a look please log onto the Parish Website on www.naasparish.ie

To mark the Feast of St Therese of Liseux, her statue, which has been kept in storage in a shed!, has being recently repainted and looks beautiful. The statue of St Therese will be reinstated for her Feast Day on Sunday, 1st October in the Church of our Lady and St. David.

Adoration Chapel; following a meeting held in CIM, Ballycane on the 12th of July last, we made the decision to change the use of the Mortuary Chapel to the rear of the Parish Church to use as a Chapel of Adoration. There will be special occasions when the Parish Team or Pastoral Council may request its use for another short term (brief) purpose, for example the Novena or Sunday Liturgy for children. Work is progressing on this project.

Repair to the Stained Glass Window (Baptism Font) is due for repair in the coming weeks.

We plan in time to put in place a Snow/Slate Guard for the church roof leading to McCauley Place. A safety measure for pedestrians.

All the above information is just to keep you in the loop and thanks as always for your generous contributions to our Sunday Collections and Lotto which allows for all of the above!

Thank you, Fr. Liam and the Finance Committee.
